Track Changes for Outlook Email

Someone edited your email — what changed? Email Compare will be an Outlook add-in for Microsoft 365 that redlines any two emails in a thread: every insertion and deletion marked tracked-changes style, a change list to step through, accept or reject each edit — right inside Outlook, nothing uploaded. It doesn’t exist yet. We’re building it now, and you can be first to know.

One email when it launches, a couple as it takes shape. Unsubscribe anytime.

What we’re building

  1. Redline any two emails in a thread

Not just the latest reply against the one before: pick any two versions in a back-and-forth — first draft against final, if that’s the question — and see every change between them, marked like a document redline.

  2. An add-in that lives in Outlook

Built for Microsoft 365: new and classic Outlook on Windows, Outlook for Mac, and Outlook on the web. The comparison runs entirely inside the add-in pane — no desktop application to install or keep running in the background.

  3. Accept, reject, send clean

Walk the changes one by one, keep what you agree with, reject what you don’t — and come away with a clean copy ready to send, no manual re-styling.

  4. Attachments go to the right tool

Emails carry documents. Word, PDF, spreadsheet, and image attachments route straight to their own diff.tools compare — the suite is built for exactly this hand-off.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Will it work with Outlook and Microsoft 365?

Yes — Email Compare is being built as an Outlook add-in for Microsoft 365 (Office 365): new and classic Outlook on Windows, Outlook for Mac, and Outlook on the web.

  2. Is the redline like Word’s track changes?

Yes — insertions and deletions marked inline, a change list to step through, and the accept-or-reject flow you may know from our Word Compare.

  3. Do I need a desktop app alongside the add-in?

No. Some email-redline tools drive a separate desktop application in the background; Email Compare does the comparison right inside the add-in pane.

  4. Will my emails be uploaded?

No. The comparison runs on your device, inside Outlook — like every diff.tools app, nothing you compare is uploaded to us.

  5. When can I use it?

It’s in development now. The launch list above is the announcement channel — one email the day it goes live.

Privacy & Data Processing

Privacy and security aren't just something you should hope for — they're something you should expect. Modern browsers allow us to process everything directly on your device, which means we never upload, transfer, or share your files.

Your files stay completely private. All comparisons happen locally in your browser. Your data stays your business.

The team behind the tool

We're Leitmotif, a small company from the Alps — Carinthia, Austria and Bavaria, Germany. File comparison is what we do all day: we make Kaleidoscope, the Mac diff app, and diff.tools brings that experience to the browser.

We believe professional tools should be beautiful to look at and fun to use, while giving you all the power you need to get the job done. And we respect your files too much to ever upload them — everything here runs on your machine.
